Ragazze Elettriche, titolo originale "The Power", racconta un mondo in cui le ragazze, prima quelle di quindici anni, poi tutte le altre, scoprono di avere il potere dell'elettricità. Grazie a una matassa nella clavicola, riescono a condurre e a mandare scariche di potenza elettrica. Chi più chi meno, chi è più forte, chi è più brava a condurla. Grazie a questo nuovo potere, le donne di tutto il mondo acquistano forza e si ribellano. Gli equilibri di potere cambiano inesorabilmente, adesso sono gli uomini che hanno paura, adesso sono loro che non escono di casa, adesso sono loro che stanno attenti a non scatenare la furia. E adesso sono loro a fare manifestazioni in cui richiedono giustizia.
La nuova situazione viene vista attraverso Allie, anche detta Madre Eve, guidata da una voce interna; Roxy, unica figlia femmina di un boss della mafia, intelligente e pratica; Margot, politica ambiziosa; Jocelyn, sua figlia, con un potere difficile da controllare; Tunde, l'unico uomo, giornalista, colui che racconta per primo tutta la storia.
La scrittrice non ha dovuto inventare niente, a parte il conferimento alle donne di questo potere. Niente di quello che succede è pura fiction. Le restrizioni a cui gli uomini sono sottoposti, i loro modi di reagire... niente che non sia successo e non succeda in molte parti del mondo. Come per Il racconto dell'ancella di Margaret Atwood, anche la Alderman ha raccontato solo cose che hanno già trovato accadimento nella realtà. Solo, a parti invertite.
Per questo motivo,è un libro che consiglio da leggere agli uomini. Chissà che leggendo di quelle cose che capitano agli uomini, sentendo sulla propria pelle quelle costrizioni, quella diseguaglianza, possano arrivare a comprendere maggiormente quelle che le donne hanno sofferto sulla propria pelle, e non in un romanzo, dagli albori dei tempi.
Romanzo meraviglioso. Un capolavoro moderno.

What a wonderful, electrifying book! Margaret Atwood, her friend and mentor, will surely be very proud of Mrs Alderman.
"The Power", original title, tells a world where girls, first the fifteen years old, then all the others, find that they have the power of electricity. Thanks to a cushion in the collarbone, they manage to carry and discharge electrical power discharges. Who the most who less, who is stronger, who is better to lead it. With this new power, women around the world gain strength and rebellion. Power balances change inexorably, now are the men who are afraid, now they are not leaving home, now they are careful not to stir up the fury. And now they are making demonstrations where they demand justice.
The new situation is seen through Allie, also called Mother Eve, guided by an inner voice; Roxy, the only female daughter of a mafia boss, intelligent and practical; Margot, ambitious politics; Jocelyn, her daughter, with a difficult power to control; Tunde, the only man, journalist, the one who first tells the whole story.
The writer did not have to invent anything, apart from conferring on women this power. Nothing that happens is pure fiction. Restrictions to which men are subjected, their ways of reacting... nothing that has not happened and does not happen in many parts of the world. As with Margaret Atwood's story, Alderman has just told things that have already happened in reality. Only, inverted parts.
For this reason, it is a book I would recommend reading to men. It would be that reading of those things that happen to men, feeling on their skin those constraints, that inequality, can get to understand more what women have suffered on their skin, not in a novel, from the dawn of time.
Wonderful romance. A modern masterpiece.
